The Jacksonville City Council is composed of nineteen members who are elected for a four-year term and serve as part-time legislators. In May of each year, the Council elects a President and Vice President to serve one-year terms beginning the first of July. The nineteen members are not all elected in the same manner; some are elected from districts, and others are elected at large.

Urgent: ACPS Needs 100 Fosters and Adopters to Ease Overcrowding Due to Higher-than-Average Intake

The City of Jacksonville’s Animal Care and Protective Services (ACPS) is in urgent need of fosters and adopters to help get 100 dogs out of the shelter. The shelter, whose capacity is 264 dogs, currently houses 377 dogs. This means that nearly 100 dogs share a kennel, cutting their living space in half.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and assess the current unmet needs of Duval County's homeless and chronic unhoused populations, gaps in existing programs and services targeting these populations, as well as any other matters within the purview of the Homelessness Initiatives Commission.
